Japan Film Commission
Japan Film Commission (JFC) is your first contact if you are interested in shooting in Japan. With our office in Tokyo, we are the national film commission of Japan, endorsed and supported by the federal government.
We are also a network comprised of over 120 regional Japanese film commissions and industry guilds and organizations, such as the Directors Guild of Japan.
Our Services
The primary role of Japan Film Commission (JFC) is to promote Japan as the location site for various productions, such as feature films, documentaries, dramas and programs for television and the streaming media, commercials, and other shootings.
If you wish to shoot in Japan, we will:
1. assist in finding the locations you need throughout Japan by serving as a liaison between you and regional film commissions and governments
2. serve as a liaison between you and the production industry in Japan
3. offer information regarding various incentives offered by the federal government as well as incentives and discounts offered by regional governments and film commissions in Japan
4. assist you in obtaining support from the local community and authorities to make your shooting easier

Incentives
The Pilot Project on Location Incentives for International Audiovisual Productions is currently being offered. This project provides financial assistance to cover a portion of the production cost for international film projects shot in Japan. It is a pilot project by the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan, with the purpose of quantitatively and qualitatively measuring the productions’ effects on regional economy.
Works eligible for this support are large-scale international TV and film projects shot in Japan (feature films, TV dramas, online dramas) and there are several criteria for projects to be qualified as an international project to be supported, based on a comprehensive assessment, taking into account different factors such as investment ratio, and whether the project is appropriate in light of the purpose of this pilot project.
